Where In the World?

Where in the world is this geological coastal land form?

I know some people who will instantly recognize this famous limestone arch pictured for Where in the World eight. Anyone who loves geology and coastal erosion may also be familiar with this coastal feature. If you’re not familiar with it and need help figuring it out, below are some clues to help.

Clue 1: The southern coastline of the country in which this geological feature can be found is know for its white cliffs, but don’t mistake these for the same ones.

Clue 2: The area in which these arches are found is famous for its 19th century author who wrote such books as The Mayor of Casterbridge, The Return of the Native and Jude the Obscure. Without Googling do you know the region?

Clue 3: These arches and the cove are part of the southern Jurassic Coastline that was designated a natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO and the first in the country where it stands.

Clue 4: The cove is a popular tourist location with approximately 500,000 visitors a year.

Clue 5: The name of these arches derives from an Old English name that means “drill” or “bore.”

Have you guessed the name yet? Comment and let me know how many clues it took. If you haven’t figured it out yet, you can click the photo to find out.

PS: I visited this cove with family many moons ago and also studied the Jurassic Coastline as part of my Earth Science BSc degree around 26 years ago.
