Here’s a little clue if you don’t recognize any of these sites or features.

The photos show various points along a section of a famous network of pilgrimages or ways that leads to a shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great.

More about this famous pilgrimage:

Each year, thousands of pilgrims, as well as hiking or cycling tourists, follow the Camino de Santiago or Way of Saint James, as its known in English, to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain.

It is believed that the remains of the saint are buried here, and the pilgrimage is, to many, a very spiritual experience and path to spiritual growth.

There are several Camino routes in Europe, the most popular being the Camino Francés (French Way), an 800 km (or 500 ml) trail that starts in St Jean Pied de Port in France and ends in Santiago de Compostela. To walk this route, it would take approximately 35 days.

The Camino Portuguese (Portuguese Way) which starts in Lisbon, takes approximately 30 days from start to finish, or 14 days starting in Porto.

The Camino del Norte (Northern Way) which extends from San Sebastián, in north eastern Spain, to Santiago de Compostela, takes about 37 days to walk.

The last 100 km of the Camino De Santiago is the most important section however, as those who complete it receive a pilgrim certificate. This section of the trail takes around 5-6 days to walk.

Many tour operators offer Camino de Santiago hiking tours. In fact, a colleague, who runs women only tours, is hiking the trail herself this year. I’m looking forward to hearing all about it and I’m sure, after her personal experience on the route, she will be arranging a women only group tour for 2020 or 2021.

If interested in going on a Camino de Santiago tour yourself, either solo or with a friend on a women only group tour, or on a custom tour with a larger group of friends, feel free to either signup to receive updates on the next women only Camino de Santiago group tour, or get in touch to let me know your travel dates and preferences and I’ll gladly help you to start planning and make all the arrangements for you.
