Top 12 Safest Countries In The World

As a travel planner who specializes in safe and sustainable experiences for solo female travellers and women’s travel groups, I’m constantly checking to see how safe destinations are for my female clients. Whether I’m creating custom itineraries or planning a private group with one of my preferred travel suppliers, I want to ensure my clients travel safely in their desired destination.

I often refer to the website, Travel Safe Abroard, which ranks every country in the world (and their major cities) according to various safety criteria. These include: overall risk to travellers, transportation and taxi risk, risk from pickpockets, mugging, terrorism, scams and natural disasters, as well as risk to female travellers.

Each country is also colour coded, Red, Orange and Green, to indicate whether it is high, medium or low risk. Countries (and cities) ranked 66 and above are considered low risk and safe for travellers. Eighty six countries (green) are considered safe to travel (at time of writing), with 44 of those countries ranked at 80 and above and eight ranked 90 and above.

The top safest country in the world comes in with a safety ranking of 95. Can you guess without looking which country is the safest? It’s good to know that Canada is ranked at number 12, tied with Czech Republic and Monaco, and with one point less, Slovenia is ranked 15th.
