La Mesa del Junquillo is a plateau that rises 869 metres between two reservoirs (Siberio & Parralillo). The top is surrounded by several man-made caves for rooms and storage. The view of the Tejeda Caldera from the top of the plateau are stunning.
A UNESCO World Heritage site worthy of an excursion is Mount Etna on the island of Sicily in Italy. The largest active strato volcano in Europe and highest in Italy, on clear days, it is visible from half of Sicily, so even on a visit to the island you’re bound to see its peak at some point.
‘Iao Needle, ‘Iao Valley State Park, Maui, is a tropical rain-forest-covered ridge, regarded as the phallic stone of Kanaloa, Hawaiian god of the ocean.
There’s more to Gran Canaria than Mas Palomas, but you can’t go on vacation on this volcanic island without a visit to this popular tourist attraction. Walk through the huge dunes to get to the white sand beach on a hot afternoon and you’ll start to feel like you’re in the Sahara – I know, because I’ve done just that.
