There’s more to Gran Canaria than Mas Palomas, but you can’t go on vacation on this volcanic island without a visit to this popular tourist attraction. Walk through the huge dunes to get to the white sand beach on a hot afternoon and you’ll start to feel like you’re in the Sahara – I know, because I’ve done just that.

Another volcanic island to put on your travel bucket list…Pico Island in the Portuguese Azores.
Like São Miguel, which I posted about last week, Pico is another volcanic island that you can see/visit on an Iberian and Azores Cruise, or on a Transatlantic Cruise,
Seriously, if you don’t have the Nā Pali Coast in Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i on your travel bucket list, then you really should add it! Hike 2 miles of the Kalalau Trail from Ke’e Beach to Kalalau Beach for exhilarating coastal views and then another 2 miles to Hanakapi’ai Falls.
The Lake of Fire (or Lagoa do Fogo in Portugues) is actually a crater lake in the centre of the island of São Miguel in the Azores. It’s location is within the Água de Pau Massif strato-volcano which is likely how it got its name.
